Top 4 Easy Eye Care Tips To Avoid Digital Eye Strain

Posted on: 24 July 2020

The risks and potential problems that your eyes face will vary from one environment to the other. If you are working, this will depend on your work setting and the job you do on a typical workday. Whatever it may be, proper eye care may key to minimizing the risk and even preventing future problems.

If you spend most of your workday staring at a computer, you are at a higher risk of developing digital eye strain. Here are some eye care tips to help you manage this risk.

1.      Time for an Upgrade

For the sake of eye care, it may be time to talk to the relevant people about getting an upgrade. If you are still using the old CRTs at your workplace, it is definitely time you upgraded to a flat panel display. These screens generally have an anti-reflective surface, so you don't have to worry about the glare from light bouncing off walls and other surfaces.

A bigger screen size is always better as you don't have to strain. The screen resolution also matters as it determines the sharpness of the images.

2.      Reposition Your Computer

Reposition your computer screen to ensure that it is at least an arm's length away from you. As a general eye care rule, if you have no problem with short-sightedness, the farther, the better.

You also want to choose a spot for your computer screen where windows are not directly in front of or behind it. It shouldn't also sit directly below overhead fluorescent lighting. Ambient lighting, from both within and without, will only add to your straining.

3.      Adjust Display Settings on Computer

There are different display settings you can adjust as part of your eye care. The brightness of the display, for starters. Both extremes, that is, too bright or too dull, can mess with your eyes.

If you are working with text, then consider adjusting the text size as well as the contrast. It will be all the more comfortable to create or read even very long blocks of text.

4.      Reduce Glare

An anti-glare screen over your computer screen is an eye care investment worth the money you'll spend on it. If you wear glasses, then you can also go for anti-reflective coating, which reduces how much light reflects off the back and the front of your eyeglass lenses.

With eye care, you cannot afford to be anything but proactive. Avoid digital eye strain with the outlined tips. Your eye doctor can give you more eye care tips and advice.
